The United Nations Commission on Trade Law created the Model Law on Electronic Transferable Documents.

The model law defines transferable documents and provides for the creation of an electronic transferable registry essential to digitize global trade. The electronic transfer of bills of lading, bills of exchange, promissory notes and commercial invoices accelerates and facilitates processes, reduce costs, and make commercial operations more efficient.
