Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from ships

Desde el 1 de enero de este año todos los buques deben calcular su Índice de Eficiencia Energética de Buques Existentes (EEXI) alcanzado a efectos de medir su eficiencia energética y notificar su indicador de intensidad de carbono (ICI) operativo anual y su clasificación ICI.From 1 January this year all ships must calculate their achieved Existing Ships Energy Efficiency Index (EEXI) for the purpose of measuring their energy efficiency and report their annual operational Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) and CII classification. The aim is to improve the energy efficiency of ships and thus achieve a 40 % reduction of greenhouse gases. This regulation was introduced in the amendments to Annex VI of the MARPOL Convention which entered into force on 1 November 2022. El objetivo es mejorar la eficiencia energética de los buques y así llegar a reducir en un 40 % los gases de efecto invernadero. Esta regulación fue introducida en las enmiendas al Anexo VI del Convenio MARPOL que entraron en vigor el 1 de noviembre de 2022.
