Strong unease among shipping companies over the possibility of a 20 % increase in pilotage costs.

The amount could reach up to 25% and would be applied from March onwards. The increase mentioned above is based on a parameter, which will then have to be approved by the Commission created by article 125 of the General Pilotage Regulations. We recall that according to law 16.595, pilotage is a compulsory, non-commercial service of national interest. All shipowners, in order to enter or leave the port, must hire the services of a pilot. This results in a significant increase in costs for shipowners entering our port.
