The Uruguayan Foreign Ministry announced that it will be a priority to carry out a project for a waterway between Brazil's Laguna de los Patos and Laguna Merín, 800 kilometers long.

The general director for Border, Border and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Mata, commented that the project "in terms of production (...) will have a new way to go out to the world and secondly for the Uruguayans who are in that area and outside that area. It means more sources of employment and the installation of new companies".
